Abstract:
Provided is a magnetic recording medium suited for storage and travel in a high temperature environment. The magnetic recording medium according to the present technology is a tape-shaped magnetic recording medium. In this magnetic recording medium, the absolute value of the average amount of change in the width of the magnetic recording medium before and after the magnetic recording medium is allowed to stand for 40 hours in an environment having a temperature of 50°C and a relative humidity of 40% RH while a tension of 0.55 N per 1/2 inch of the width of the magnetic recording medium is applied in the longitudinal direction is 170 ppm or less, and the average tension responsiveness with respect to longitudinal-direction tension in an environment having a temperature of 50°C and a relative humidity of 40% RH is 700 ppm/N or greater. Furthermore, the magnetic recording medium has a plurality of servo bands each having a servo pattern written thereon, the servo pattern including a first servo pattern and a second servo pattern that are asymmetrical in relation to the width direction of the magnetic recording medium. The servo patterns of mutually adjacent servo bands have a phase difference.
