Provided is a load application device that is reduced in size and has excellent buffering action. The load application device is provided with: a first member (2) and a second member (3) which can move relative to one another in an axial direction, which are assembled with one to the inside and the other to the outside, and one of which serves as a propulsion member for pressing the other member and that can advance and retreats relative to the other member in the axial direction; and an elastic member (4) that is provided to the inside of the assembled first member (2) and second member (3) and that applies propulsive force to the member that serves as the propulsion member. The outer member of the inner and outer member is provided with a leg (24) comprising a plurality of side surface parts (22) extending the in the axial direction, and openings (23) extending in the axial direction and formed by the lack of a part of the side surface parts (22). The side wall parts (22) can be displaced in a direction intersecting with the axial direction when the member that serves as the propulsion member retreats.
