This limit switch is provided with a switch main body capable of being switched on and off, and an operating portion connected to the switch main body. The operating portion includes: a box-like housing; a shaft portion including a shaft main body which is supported in the housing in such a way as to be capable of forward rotation around an axis of rotation from a return position toward a first operating position, and reverse rotation from the return position toward a second operating position on the opposite side of the return position to the first operating position, and a cam portion which is provided on the shaft main body in a position inside the housing, and which rotates in forward and reverse directions together with the shaft main body; an urging portion causing the shaft main body to return to the return position; and a plunger which moves by means of the rotation of the cam portion to switch the switch main body on and off, and which is configured to be capable of setting an operating mode from either one of one-sided operation and two-sided operation.
