Abstract:
The present invention diversifies light distribution control of emitted light. The present invention provides a lighting device including a light source, a condensing unit, a liquid crystal element that is located in a focal position of the light that is condensed by the light condensing unit, a projection lens that is located in a position at which the light that has passed through the liquid crystal element can enter, a first polarization plate that is located between the light source and the liquid crystal element, a second polarization plate that is located between the liquid crystal element and the projection lens, and a diffractive optical element that is located between the light source and the liquid crystal element. The diffractive optical element has a plurality of light modulation regions that are individually capable of electrically switching between a first state in which the refractive index changes periodically or continuously and a second state in which the refractive index is substantially uniform. In the first state, a diffractive effect is produced with respect to the entering light, and each of the plurality of light modulation regions are located at a position at which the light can enter, said position being closer to the light source than the focal position.
