Abstract:
In order to detect, with no need to open/close an original document cover, the size of an original document placed on an original document placement plane, an image forming apparatus comprises: an image reading unit (2) that can read the image data of the original document; original document detection sensors (29A, 29B); an ADF (1) that has, on an original document pressure plane (15), first and second areas having different reflection properties and third and fourth areas having different reflection properties; a first reading control unit (52) that causes the image reading unit (2) to read the image data in each of the first and second areas when the ADF (1) has been closed; a first original document width detection unit (53) that detects the width of the original document on the basis of the image data read from the first area or on the basis of the image data read from the second area; and a first size detection unit (54) that can detect the size of the original document on the basis of the detection results of the first original document width detection unit (53) and the original document detection sensors (29A, 29B).
