An image encoding method, for encoding images, according to the present invention includes: a prediction image generation step for performing a synthesizing process that synthesizes an intra-block copy prediction image and an intra-prediction image not obtained using intra-block copy prediction to generate a synthesized prediction image for a block to be encoded; and an encoding step for encoding the differences in pixel values between the prediction image generated in the prediction image generation step and an image of the block to be encoded. During the synthesizing process, a weighting process is performed upon the intra-block copy prediction image and the intra-prediction image not obtained using intra-block copy prediction, and a weighting parameter used for the intra-prediction image in the weighting process is determined using information for adjacent blocks adjacent to the block to be encoded.
