Abstract:
A high-pressure discharge lamp comprising an outer-tube bulb having its inner space evacuated to vacuum, a light emission tube housed in the outer-tube bulb, and a voltage attenuating switching element for attenuating a voltage applied to the light emission tube, the voltage attenuating switching element consisting of a thermally-actuated switching element and a starting voltage attenuating element that are series-connected, wherein the thermally-actuated switching element is closed with the light emission tube parallel-connected with the voltage attenuating switching element while the thermally-actuated switching element is at a specified temperature or higher to actuate the starting voltage attenuating element, and the thermally-actuated switching element is opened while the thermally-actuated switching element is at less than a specified temperature to stop the starting voltage attenuating element.
