Abstract:
A heat-insulating layer (21) formed on the surface of a member (19) that faces a combustion chamber of an engine, the layer (21) comprising hollow particles (23) constituted of an inorganic oxide, a filler material (25), and a vitreous material (27) consisting mainly of silicic acid. The vitreous material (27) is in a non-powdery state, and the hollow particles (23) and the filler material (25) are covered with and bonded to the vitreous material (27).
