Description:
THE HANGER FORADJUSTABLEWALL-MOUNTING OF FURNITURE, PARTICULARLYHANGING ONE,AND PROCEDUREOF HANGING

FURNITURE ONTO IT

The hanger according to the invention is used for fitting wall furniture, particularly hanging one, e.g. hanging kitchen elements, to the wall. For these purposes various versions of fasteners and hangers are used, all incorporating a screw secured to the wall or more accurately into a plastic screw anchor inserted into a wall pre-drilled hole. When assembling wall furniture referred to, first the appropriate number of holes must be drilled in the wall, where plastic screw anchors are then inserted. Whereas drilling is normally made by hand electric drills, the precise holes position is problematic as a drill easily skids for some millimetres. Such holes position irregularities result in imprecise assembly of wall furniture elements, both in terms of horizontality and lateral adjustment as well as height adjustment. With a view to these problems, fittings providing compensation of certain drilled holes position irregularities for plastic screw anchors established on the market. One of such element is an angle for wall fitting according to the Patent SE 408451 (patent applicant IKEA SVENSKA AB, inventor Weberg B.). However, a majority of existing fittings cannot compensate the wall surface irregularity the furniture is attached to, and so the adjustment of furniture in the perpendicular direction to the wall is not provided by these fittings. Those providing such adjustment are complicated in terms of execution, have non-aesthetic appearance, take up much room and are expensive as such.

The hanger for adjustable wall-mounting of furniture, according to the invention, remedies these deficiencies, thus enabling the compensation of the fastening screw holes position irregularities, as well as wall smoothness irregularities (three-dimensional, here in after referred to 3D adjustment of furniture position). Due to its compact execution, compared to the existing hangers, its dimensions are substantially smaller; the hanger is completely hidden between the furniture and wall, so it does not affect the furniture aesthetic image. Moreover, it easily provides (from the interior of the furniture) a very precise 3D adjustment of furniture

position, and thus its fitting to the wall.

The invention shall be specified in the execution sample and illustrated in the figures showing, as follows:

Figure 1 wall member (1) in perspective, viewed towards the wall;

Figure 2 wall member (1) in perspective, viewed in opposite direction as in Figure 1 ;

Figure 3 furniture member (2), viewed from the wall;

Figure 4 furniture member (2) , viewed in opposite direction as in Figure 3;

Figure 5 furniture member (2) and wall member (1) before joining, viewed in the same direction as in Figure 3

Figure 6 same as referred to in Figure 5, but after the joining; Figure 7 hanger according to invention in longitudinal cross section; Figure 8 set of eccenter - spindle in longitudinal cross section; Figure 9 cylindrical nut (12) in longitudinal cross section.

The hanger for adjustable wall-mounting of furniture according to invention consists of two basic members: wall member (1), steadfastly attached to the wall (4) and the furniture member (2) externally attached to the back of the furniture (3) (i.e. hanging cabinet) so that the hanger does not affect its interior. By means of a pair of furniture members (2) the wall furniture can be attached to the corresponding pair of wall members (1) and thus attaching the furniture to the required location on the wall. The furniture member (2) comprises a mechanism which enables a precise adjustment of its position and thus the position of furniture against the wall in vertical direction as well the direction perpendicular to the wall (4). The precise adjustment in the horizontal direction is provided by hanging the furniture member (2) to the wall member (1) hung movably in the horizontal direction.

The wall member (1) is preferably made from sheet metal. It is attached, preferably screwed, to the wall (4), so to be flatly mounted against it. In its central part, a vertically oriented groove (5) reaches by its upper end to the upper edge (1.1) of wall member (1), and by its bottom end passes to the horizontal groove (6) through the rounded ends (6.1) and (6.2). The rack (9) is made on the back side of wall member (1) under the horizontal groove (6) and parallel to its bottom edge. It is important that the wall member (1) is displaced from the wall (4) for some millimetres (size range 3 mm) in its central part, so the gap (10) between the central part of the wall member (1) and the wall (4) is in place. This can be executed in various ways, the most rationally in such a way that the sheet metal of wall member (1) is bulged in this part,

while the attached drawings show the version where the wall member (1) is composed of two flat fitting sheet metals.

The precise adjustment of wall furniture in the vertical direction enables the eccenter (7). The eccenter, preferably made from steel sheet, forms together with a spindle (11) a whole, which can be turned around a spindle's longitudinal axis (8) being perpendicular to the wall (4). The spindle (11) is attached to the frame (2.1) of furniture member (2) so that is screwed into nut (12), positioned within the frame (2.1), as will be detailed hereinafter. Therefore the eccenter (7) is a part of the furniture member (2) of the hanger according to the invention. The furniture member (2) is attached to the furniture's back or more precisely to one of its two upper corners, while at the adjacent upper corner the same, but mirror executed or placed element is attached (as already mentioned above, a pair of hangers according to the invention are required for attaching one piece of hanging furniture). The hanging cabinet is mounted to the wall by fitting it to the corresponding wall member (1), attached to the required location on the wall, by means of the eccenter (7) which falls into said gap (10) between the wall member (1) and wall (4), and lowers down to the rack (9) of wall member (1) leaning against it, so as to transfer the wall furniture weight to the wall member (1). The vertical groove (5) thus enables passing of the spindle (11). By turning spindle (11), the eccenter (7) does not roll on its base i.e. the rack (9), but slides at the same place resulting in the moving of furniture member (2) together with hanging cabinet in the vertical direction. The size of the biggest possible shift in the vertical direction is equal to the double eccentricity value of eccenter (7). In order to turn said spindle, it has in its end, oposite to the eccenter (7), a hexagon cavity (11.1), intended for the use of hexagonal socket head screwdriver .

The precise adjustment of the wall furniture position in the horizontal direction parallel to the wall, to which the furniture is mounted, is provided by said groove (6) on the wall member (1). The furniture member (2) (as well as the hanging furniture) may namely freely move alongside the whole groove (6), whereat the eccenter (7), leaning on the rack (9), slides on it. In order not to prevent the described vertical adjustment of said furniture position by the groove (6), its width i.e. the dimension in the vertical direction is equal or exceeds the sum of diameter of spindle (11) and maximal possible stroke in the vertical adjustment.

So as to enable the precise adjustment of the furniture position also in the direction perpendicular to the wall thus compensating its smoothness irregularities, the spindle (11)

together with the eccenter (7) are movable in relation to the other parts of furniture member (2) in the said direction. For this purpose the spindle (11) has the external thread (11.2) to screw the spindle into the cylindrical nut (12). Said nut is pivotally inserted between the sheet metals (13) and (14) which form the case (2.1) of the furniture member (2). The Length (L) of thread (12.1) of nut (12), is unlike in the case of standard nuts shorter than the height of nut (H), which with other words means that the thread (12.1) does not pass through the whole nut, while at the end of the thread (12.1), the nut's cavity passes from the round shape into the shape of n-angle (12.2), preferably of hexagon, whose height (minimal distance between two opposite sides) is less than the thread (12.1) nominal diameter. In this way, the screwing depth of spindle (11) into the nut (12) is limited by the length (L) of thread (12.1). The above mentioned hexagonal nut cavity is intended for the use of hexagonal socket head screwdriver in order to turn the nut (12). By turning the nut (12), it is moving the spindle (11) alongside. Therefore the entire furniture member (2) of the hanger according to the invention, comprising nut (12), also moves together with the nut (12) and so moves the furniture (3) to which the furniture member (2) is attached. This way the hanging cabinet either approaches to or moves from the wall which enables the precise adjustment of its distance from the wall. As it was already mentioned, this is useful, if the wall surface (4) is not smooth.

In addition to the precise adjustment of the wall furniture position, the hanger according to the invention also enables fixing of the furniture's position after it has been hung and said adjustment has been performed. The furniture should be fixed in a final position because the eccenter (7) may freely slide on the rack (9) the entire groove (6) alongside. In order to attain this objective, the spindle (11) is hollow having an internal thread (16) in which a thread pin (15) is screwed. The pin's end which is closer to the wall (4), is shaped in a sharp point (15.1). The fixing is provided for by screwing the thread pin (15) against the wall (4) so that the point (15.1) is slightly pushed into it.

The procedure of fitting the wall furniture to the wall and precise adjustment of its position by using the hanger according to the invention is the following:

1. The wall member (1) is fitted to the wall and the furniture member (2) of the hanger according to the invention is attached to the external part of the back furniture (3), to be fitted to the wall. In this case the wall member (1) should be oriented with the rack (9) to the wall, and with the groove (5) mouth facing upwards. The furniture member (2), in which the spindle (11) [together with the eccenter (7)] is already inserted, is facing with the

eccenter to the wall member (1). It is logical that each furniture member needs al least one pair of the above described hanger according to the invention, but the procedure, being equal for each of them, shall be due to simplicity described for one piece.

2. The furniture member is hung so that the eccenter (7) fits in the groove (5) and lowers down to the rack (9).

3. The precise adjustment of the furniture position in the vertical direction: By turning the spindle (11) and the eccenter (7) the furniture is raised or lowered until it reaches the required position height. The spindle is turned by means of a hexagonal socket head screwdriver reaching the spindle from the hanging cabinet (3) interior, through a bore (16) at the cabinet's back.

4. The precise adjustment of the furniture position in a horizontal direction parallel to the wall is provided by moving the furniture to the required position, whereat the spindle (11) moves in the horizontal groove (6), and the eccenter (7) slides on the rack (9).

5. When the furniture is placed in the required position, as referred to in the Points 3 and 4, it should be fixed in this position; otherwise it could move the entire groove (6) alongside. The fixing is provided by means of thread pin (15) to be screwed against the wall (4) whereat the pin (15) with the point (15.1) is slightly pushed into it.

6. The precise adjustment of the furniture distance from the wall should be provided only in the case of wall smoothness irregularities. This is achieved by turning the nut (12) by using the hexagonal socket head screw in the nut's preferable version.

It is clear that any other different order of Points 3, 4, 5 and 6 does not amend the substance of the invention.

All precise adjustments of the furniture position shall be executed from the interior of the furniture though the bore (16) at its back. As already mentioned above, the furniture member (2) is attached on the external side of the furniture back, so that at the visible i.e. inner side of the furniture back the said bore providing the access of tools for precise adjustment of the position can only be seen. The interior of the furniture both visually and physically remains completely unaffected, thus the hanger according to the invention performing its primary function - providing the precise and simple 3D adjustment of the furniture position - doesn't spoil aesthetical look of the furniture.
