The present invention discloses a gas-permeable member comprising: a water-proof and dust-proof gas-permeable membrane which, while being affixed to an opening, allows gas flowing through the opening to permeate therethrough; and a valve film disposed so as to cover the gas-permeable region of the gas-permeable membrane. The gas-permeable membrane and the valve film are joined together directly or through an intermediate member at a portion of the peripheral edge of the gas-permeable membrane, and the region of the valve film, which is not joined to the gas-permeable membrane, is capable of being reversibly deformed in the direction away from the gas-permeable membrane by the pressure of gas permeating through the gas-permeable membrane toward the valve film. The gas permeating through the gas-permeable membrane toward the valve film flows through between the gas-permeable membrane and the valve film deformed in the direction away from the gas-permeable membrane and is discharged toward the peripheral edge of the gas-permeable membrane, which is not joined to the valve film. The disclosed gas-permeable member is a gas-permeable member provided with the water-proof and dust-proof gas-permeable membrane and having asymmetric gas permeability, and has a novel and unprecedented configuration.
