Abstract:
A plate-shape multi-layer body (10) is arranged between a drift electrode (100) and a capture electrode (102). The plate-shaped multi-layer body (10) functions as a gas electron amplifier for performing electron amplification by the electron avalanche effect. The plate-shaped multi-layer body (10) is formed by a plate-shape insulation layer (12) and planar electrode layers (14, 16) coating the both sides of the plate-shape insulation layer (12). Moreover, the plate-shape multi-layer body (10) has a plurality of through hole structures (18) formed with walls vertical to the electrode layers (14, 16) for collecting an electric field. These components are contained in a chamber (104), which is filled with a predetermined detection gas. Electrons introduced into the chamber (104) are amplified by the through hole structures (18) and detected by the capture electrode (102). The detection signal is received by a detection unit (22). This realizes a gas electron amplifier capable of stably operating for a long period of time, a manufacturing method thereof, and a radiation detector using the gas electron amplifier.
