Abstract:

Provided are: a frictional member which has satisfactory crack resistance and satisfactory shear strength at room temperature and high temperature, is less aggressive on a disc rotor, and has high vibration damping properties and thereby reduces the occurrence of brake squeal; and a frictional material composition and frictional material for a lower-layer material which can be used to obtain the frictional member. More specifically, the frictional member has an upper-layer material, a lower-layer material, and a back plate in that order. The lower-layer material contains fibrous wollastonite. The fibrous wollastonite has an average fiber length of 100-850 μm and an aspect ratio (average fiber length/average fiber diameter) of 8 or more.
