Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a friction material for use in disc brake pads obtained by molding a non-asbestos-organic (NAO) friction material composition, the friction material being inhibited from making an abnormal noise in stopping while complying with laws and regulations regarding copper-component content. This friction material, which is for use in disc brake pads, is obtained by molding an NAO fiction material composition comprising a binder, a fibrous base, an inorganic friction regulator, an organic friction regulator, and a lubricating material and containing no copper component, and is characterized in that the friction material composition contains fluoropolymer particles having an average particle diameter of 10-1,000 μm as the lubricating material in an amount of 0.5-5 wt% with respect to the whole friction material composition and contains zirconium oxide having an average particle diameter of 1-8 μm as the inorganic friction regulator in an amount of 15-35 wt% with respect to the whole friction material composition.
