Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a friction material used in disc brake pads and comprising a friction material composition from an NAO material containing a binding material, a fiber base material, a friction adjustment material, a lubrication material, a pH adjustment material, and a filling material such that the friction material satisfies the required performances for brake effectiveness, resistance to cracking, and resistance to fading. In order to solve the problem, the friction material comprises the friction material composition from the NAO material containing the binding material, the fiber base material, the friction adjustment material, the lubrication material, the pH adjustment material, and the filling material. The friction material composition contains, as the friction adjustment material with respect to the total amount of the friction material composition, 5 to 30% by mass of titanate in a lamellar crystal structure whereof the alkali leach rate is between 0.1% by mass and 2.5% by mass inclusive.
