Abstract:
The purpose of the invention is to provide a friction material made of NAO material that does not contain a copper component, wherein the friction material can ensure sufficient wear resistance while suppressing metal catching. A friction material molded from a friction material composition of an NAO material that does not contain a copper component, wherein the problem is resolved by the friction material composition being free of a non-copper simple metal or alloy, and containing, as a lubricant, a metal sulfide where the temperature at which the metal and sulfur decompose is 600°C or higher. The metal sulfide is particularly preferably zinc sulfide, and the amount added is preferably 0.5 to 2.0 weight% based on the total amount of the friction material composition. Furthermore, graphite is included as a lubricant at a level of 2.0 to 5.0 weight% based on the total amount of the friction material composition.
