Title:
FRICTION MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING FRICTION MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2011/078269
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is a highly heat-resistant brake pad which is compatible with high-temperature and high-load situations, and which can be produced simply by adding a calcination step to the same steps used for an organic friction material, and further provided is a method for producing the highly heat-resistant brake pad. A silicon-containing polymer is added as the binder to a friction material formed from a fiber base, a friction regulator, a binder, and an inorganic material, the mixture is heated and molded, the product is heat treated at a temperature between 160ºC and 350ºC for 1 to 10 hours in an oxidizing atmosphere to crosslink with oxygen, and the product is then calcined to produce a friction material. The silicon-containing polymer is preferably one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of polycarbosilane, polyorganoborosilazane, polyborosiloxane, polycarbosilazane, and perhydropolysilazane.
