Abstract:
Provided is a friction material composition that does not contain copper, which can be a cause of the pollution on rivers, lakes, oceans, etc., or contains copper in an amount of 0.5 mass% at most, and that nevertheless can give a friction material which is excellent in terms of coefficient of friction during high-speed high-load braking, wear resistance, and the property of not attacking the mating member and which is inhibited from squealing. Also provided are a friction material and a friction member which were each obtained from the friction material composition.
The friction material composition comprises a binder, an organic filler, an inorganic filler, and a fibrous base, and has a copper content of 0.5 mass% or less in terms of copper element amount or contains no copper. A phenolic resin containing a silicone rubber dispersed therein is contained as some or all of the binder in an amount of 5-10 mass%, and zirconium oxide is contained as some of the inorganic filler in an amount of 20-33 mass%.
