Prior Art
The 4 way is the valve that used in the bidirectional pipe prover to prove custody transfer meter. The prior arts designed in two separate concepts a- The first design uses a pair slips with vertical slot at the back joined by a plug with slots at its two sides figure 1 .When the plug (e)goes down it pushes the slips (i) with its seal(i) against the valve seat (Ports b), when the plug(e) pulls up the slips(i) retracted away from the valve seat, when goes up further the slips will lift up since the plug(e) top is wider than the bottom, then slips rotate 90 and pushed down against the valve seat, diverting the flow .The same operation repeated in reversed direction to change flow direction as before. b- Ball valve
The valve is a normal ball valve with a ball of 4 bores 90 degree apart ,coincide with 4 ports in the valve body, each ports pair makes a 90 degree with other figure (2), The bores divert the flow in 90 degree figure (2).The valve operates in 90 degree (back and forward) to divert the flow see figure 2
Description
4 way valve invention
The valve consists of two parts a seat figure (4-a) and a plug figure (5).
The seat is a cylinder (k), with two parts, one part at the bottom (base) accommodates the ports and the upper part (enclosure) enclosures the plug. The seat's base is a disk(f) of 4 equal bores(A,B,C and D) centered in the corners of square shape ,connected to the 90 degree elbows item( a.b,c and d), Figure (4-a), that make up the valve ports, ended with a flange connection or thread. The elbows are support by crossed (90 degree) vertical plates items (n-1,n-2)Figure 4-a,to protect the elbows during plug movements (seat /unseat).Besides that a mechanical stopper item (g)figure (4-a),to restrict plug rotation beyond 90 degree. A drain valve item(e) is connected to the seat bottom do drain it through bores item P figure (4-a )for maintenance purposes. The tapping point item h figure 4-a designed to connect differential pressure gauge to monitor valve seal for leakages .
The plug consists of a valve stem item(g) Figure (5), cover (item h) and diverter (item f) .The diverter is a disk with 4 bores, every pair bores connected together in a parallel with pipe item (e-1 and e-2). The bores in the seat and in the diverter are symmetrical in size and they are equally apart. The circumference of the plug trimmed at its edge item(j) in a sector of 90 degree. The trim item j figure (5) and the stopper item (g) figure (4-a), are used to restrict the disk rotation in 90 degree only. The valve's stem (g) is sealed using a gland on the valve cover by o ring. The plug has extended part item m figure (5) enters the seat's disk through a bore item j figure 4-a to be tight in position.
The actuator of type "lifts unseats, rotates 90 degree, lowers and seats", the actuator is not a part of the invention.
4 WAY Valve Operation
The valve has input port a and output port c Figure (4-a) Suppose port a ,b,c and d in the seat, faces bore a,b,c and d in the diverter respectively, the liquids enters through port a leaves through port c. Figure (6-a).
The valve changes flow direction by lifting the diverter up and then turn 90 degree anti clock wise then lowers the diverter down to seat till seated on the seal (1), mechanical stopper, prevents the valve to turn further than 90 degree. In this situation as in figure (6-b), port A connected to the port D using plug's bores a and b. obviously port b connected to port c in the seat using bores c and d. This makes the flow direction in port a and d in reversed.
The valve returns to original position by lifting the plug then turn it 90 degree clock wise and lowering it back to seat.
