Abstract:
Provided are an energy absorbing device, a seat belt retractor, and a seat belt device whereby the amount of energy absorption can be varied in accordance with an increase or decrease in rotation speed between objects rotating relative to each other, while achieving an increase in durability. The energy absorbing device is provided with: a casing (2) connected to one object; an annular first clutch disc (3) disposed in the casing (2); an annular second clutch disc (4) disposed in the casing (2); and an annular clutch plate (5) connected to the other object and having a meshing surface (50) facing both the first clutch disc (3) and the second clutch disc (4). Engagement external teeth (31) of the first clutch disc (3) and engagement internal teeth (41) of the second clutch disc (4) are alternately engaged with engagement teeth (51) of the clutch plate (5), whereby energy produced by relative rotating motion of one object and the other object is absorbed.
