Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of suppressing changes in characteristics over time. An electrode (1) for electrolysis has a catalytic layer (4) that is a porous layer comprising: a plurality of composite particles each containing platinum and iridium oxide; and a plurality of pores (42). The catalytic layer (4) has a plurality a recesses (45) recessed from a main surface (40) which is on the side opposite to a conductive substrate (2) side. A tantalum oxide layer (5) contains a first section (51) provided on the main surface (40) of the catalytic layer (4) and a second section (52) provided in the surface of at least one recess of the plurality of recesses (45) of the catalytic layer (4). The electrode (1) for electrolysis further includes a tantalum oxide section (43) which is provided in at least one pore (42) of the plurality of pores (42) and which is in contact with the catalytic layer (4). In the catalytic layer (4), a portion of the catalytic layer is exposed by the plurality of recesses (45). The electrochemically-active surface area per unit area of the catalytic layer (4) is 7 cm2 or less.
