Abstract:
The present invention provides a dry friction material and a method for manufacturing the same, wherein the dry friction material is maintained as a whole with a reduced percentage of glass fiber content so that a portion to be drilled has a high strength and a high rigidity, thereby enabling drilling for swaging. The portion of stamping dies (20A, 20B) that is associated with the portion to be drilled is provided with a rib (21) protruded toward the workpiece being shaped, thereby stamping in a press forming step the portion to be drilled (a glass rich portion (30)) at a higher pressure as compared with a portion not to be drilled. This causes only compound rubber (4) to be extruded outward, so that only the glass rich portion (30) has an increased percentage of glass fiber (3) content, thus being provided with enough strength to withstand the drilling. It is thus possible to manufacture the dry friction material (1) that is provided with a drilled hole (2) without causing any defectives due to the drilling.
