Provided is a technique capable of suppressing the increase of the current capacity of a drive unit for electrically driving the magnetic axis support mechanism of a turbo compressor. A drive device 100 is provided with: a DC link circuit 40; a forward conversion circuit 30 for converting the power of an external power supply PS to DC power and supplying the DC power to the DC link circuit 40; an electric motor 10 for rotationally driving a compression mechanism; a magnetic axis support portion 20 for magnetically supporting the rotational axis of the compression mechanism; an inverter circuit 60 capable of driving the electric motor 10 by the power from the DC link circuit 40, causing the electric motor 10 to perform a regenerative operation for converting the power from the rotational axis of the compression mechanism to electric energy, and capable of outputting the regenerative power to the DC link circuit 40; and a power amplifier circuit 70 for driving the magnetic axis support portion 20 by the power from the DC link circuit 40. The inverter circuit 60 causes the electric motor 10 to perform the regenerative operation so that the voltage of the DC link circuit 40 becomes higher than the voltage of the DC link circuit 40 obtained when the power of the external power supply PS is normally supplied.
