Title:
DENITRIFYING COMPOSITION FOR REMOVING NITRATE NITROGEN AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2000/018694
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A denitrifying composition which is a material for use in decomposing the nitrate nitrogen contained in wastewater with the aid of sulfur-oxidizing bacteria for which sulfur and carbonates are nutrients, characterized by comprising calcium carbonate particles dispersed in sulfur. The composition preferably comprises 10 parts by weight of sulfur and, coexistent therewith, 10 to 15 parts by weight of calcium carbonate and 1 to 3 parts by weight of a microporous substance. The composition is obtained by heating a calcium carbonate powder together with sulfur to melt the sulfur, dispersing the calcium carbonate particles in the liquid sulfur, and rapidly cooling the mixture to solidify it. Stable denitrification is possible with this composition even without incorporation of any other ingredient because the composition contains both of a nutrient and an alkali source.
