Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method by which it is possible to produce, with high productivity, an unsaturated hydrocarbon compound such as butadiene, and an enzyme used in said method, wherein mutations associated with amino acid substitutions are introduced at various positions of ferulic acid decarboxylase, and numerous variants of said enzyme are prepared. In addition, with regard to the variants, as a result of assessing catalytic activity pertaining to the production of butadiene, it was discovered that the catalytic activity improves according to the fact that the amino acid at position 395 is glutamine, histidine, asparagine, leucine, isoleucine, methionine, lysine, serine, arginine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, or the like.
