Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a cylinder and piston ring assembly, wherein when combining a cylinder obtained from a hyper-eutectic Al-Si alloy with a hard carbon film-coated piston ring, both exhibit excellent abrasion resistance. On at least the outer circumferential sliding surface of the piston ring, a laminated coating film is coated, the laminated coating film: being obtained from a metal layer, a metal-containing hard carbon layer and a metal-free hard carbon layer, in order from the substrate side; and having a Martens hardness (indentation hardness) (HMs) of 5-13 GPa, an indentation elastic modulus (E) of 70-200 GPa, a deformation ratio (Rpe) represented by the ratio (Wp/We) of the plastic deformation energy (Wp) to the elastic deformation energy (We) of 0.45 or less, and a ratio (Tmf/Tm) of the thickness of the metal-free hard carbon layer (Tmf) to the thickness of the metal-containing hard carbon layer (Tm) of 2-8.
