Abstract:
A cuttable machinable brass alloy and manufacturing method. The brass alloy comprises the following components in percentage by weight: 45-54 wt% of copper, 0.5-9.0 wt% of manganese, and 37-53 wt% of zinc, wherein the percentage sum of copper, manganese and zinc is greater than or equal to 95 wt%, and inevitable impurities are less than or equal to 0.1 wt%. The alloy comprises a Cu-Zn solid solution having a body-centered cubic structure and a face-centered cubic Cu-Mn solid solution. Primary steps of the manufacturing method include: mixing materials, smelting, continuous casting, scalping, drawing, stress relieving and annealing, straightening, sizing, packaging, etc. The cuttability performance and mechanical properties of the brass alloy is superior and can replace the existing cuttable brass alloy, thus addressing the scarcity of copper resources and excess of zinc resources.
