The present invention pertains to a core wire for friction transmission belts that includes a Lang's lay cord, wherein the total fineness is 300-1000 tex, the core wire has a rubber component attached to at least a part of the surface of the core wire, the Lang's lay cord includes a primarily twisted yarn, and the primarily twisted yarn includes carbon fibers.
