A control system for a work machine according to the present invention is provided with: a hydraulic pump; a hydraulic cylinder that causes a work machine element to operate within a movable range on the basis of hydraulic oil supplied from the hydraulic pump; a first flow path connected to the hydraulic pump; a second flow path branching from the first flow path; a flow rate control valve that adjusts a flow rate of the hydraulic oil supplied to the hydraulic cylinder via the first flow path; a bleed valve that adjusts the flow rate of the hydraulic oil discharged into a tank via the second flow path; an orientation sensor that detects the orientation of the work machine element in the movable range; and a control device which, if it is determined on the basis of detection data from the orientation sensor that the work machine element is present in an end part section that includes an end part position of the movable range, outputs a first control command to adjust the flow rate of the hydraulic oil supplied to the hydraulic cylinder, and a second control command to adjust the flow rate of the hydraulic oil discharged into the tank.
