Title:
COMBINATION OF CYLINDER AND PISTON RING
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2021/124788
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is a combination of a cylinder and a piston ring with which it is possible, irrespective of the material applied in the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder, to reduce the amount of wear in a hard carbon film forming the outer peripheral surface of the piston ring, in accordance with the degree of hardness of said material. The present disclosure is a combination of a cylinder and a piston ring, said combination comprising a cylinder of an internal combustion engine, and a piston ring that slides against the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder, and said combination being characterized in that: the outer peripheral surface of the piston ring that slides against the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder is formed from an amorphous carbon film containing substantially no hydrogen; the Vickers hardness Hd of the amorphous carbon film and the Vickers hardness Hb of the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder satisfy the relationship Hd+Hb≤2500HV; and the ratio ID/IG, which is a ratio of the peak intensity of a D band to the peak intensity of a G band in a Raman spectrum obtained by measuring the amorphous carbon film by Raman spectroscopy, is 0.60-1.33 (inclusive).
