Abstract:
Provided is a cationic electrodeposition coating composition which can be cured at low baking temperatures equal to those for intercoating and topcoating materials to give a satisfactory cured coating film when used in two coating and one baking operations together with an intercoating material or when used in three coating and one baking operations together with an intercoating material and a topcoating material. Also provided is a method for forming a coating film from the composition. A cationic electrodeposition coating material comprising a resin composition for cationic electrodeposition coating materials which contains unsaturated double bonds in an amount of 0.1-0.3 mol per 100 g of the solid components of the resin composition is applied by electrodeposition. Thereafter, the uncured electrodeposition coating film is coated with an intercoating material or a topcoating material or with both. The electrodeposition coating film is then baked and cured in air or in an inert-gas stream simultaneously with the intercoating material and/or the topcoating material.
