A brake lining (2) is provided with a plurality of friction structural bodies (3) having front surfaces that oppose a sliding surface of a brake disk, back plates (4) fixed to respective back surfaces of the friction structural bodies (3), a base plate (6) for supporting the friction structural bodies (3), and an elastic member (5) interposed between the base plate (6) and each of the back plates (4). Each of the friction structural bodies (3) includes a pair of friction parts (3M) adjacent to either side of a groove (3b) formed in the surface, and a thin-walled part (3C) provided corresponding to the groove (3b) and having less thickness than the friction parts (3M). Each of the friction structural bodies (3) is supported on the base plate (6) at two locations, and the points of support for the friction structural bodies (3) are the respective pair of friction parts (3M). The length of the thin-walled part (3C) with respect to the width direction of the friction parts (3M) is constant, and is equal to the maximum width of the friction parts (3M). With the length of the thin-walled part (3C) denoted as D and the distance between supporting points of the pair of friction parts (3M) denoted as L, L/D is at least 1.1.
