Abstract:
A technique for cutting after blow forming the lower end of an annular large diameter section
of a boot body by using an existing cutting device as it is. The boot body (Pm) of
a boot for a constant velocity joint has an annular small diameter section (P1),
the annular large diameter section (P3), and an annular bellows section (P2)
provided between the small diameter and large diameter sections. The small diameter
section (P1) and the large diameter section (P3) are fitted on the constant velocity
joint. To produce the boot, the boot body (Pm) is primarily formed and then it is
subjected to a secondary forming by which a built up section (thick wall sections
(T1), a thin wall section (T2)), having a varying wall thickness, is integrated
with the outside of the large diameter section. The large diameter section has
thin wall regions (F2) and thick wall regions (F1). The regions (F1, F2) are continuous
to each other, the thin wall regions (F2) are circumferentially continuous along
the thin wall sections, and the thick wall regions (F1) are recessed along the
thick wall sections so as to be closer to the center of the boot than the thin wall
regions. At the lower end of the thick wall regions are integrally formed extension
sections (Pj) extending in a planar form in a radial direction along the bottom
surface of the thick wall sections. Extension ends (E1) of the extension sections
are continuous on the same circumference as lower ends of the thin wall regions
(E2).
