Title:
BOLT CONNECTION WITH GRIPPING BLADE-EDGED POINTS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2006/114560
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
These blade-edged points as applied to the mating surfaces of nuts/bolts or washers used during manufacture will have much greater resistance to turning AFTER the tightening phase when compared to conventional engineering or other types of bolt (or washers/studs/nuts in current use). Upon completion of the tightening phase, these bolts will prove virtually impossible to loosen under any condition. This will produce a far safer product for both the consumer and the manufacturer. The blade-edged points can run continually radially from centre to periphery of bolt, or indeed have staggered or otherwise interrupted portions in their length. (Across the mating surfaces).

CLAIM
1. Bolt Gripping Bladeedged points Publication No. GB0508392.8 This application consists of a number of bladeedged points integrated into the undersurface of a bolt head. These bladeedged points engage with the surface of the material being joined during the final phase of the tightening operation. Upon contact with the material, the bladeedged points penetrate the material surface, thus preventing further rotation of the bolt. It is the nut on the obverse side of the fixing that draws the bladeedged points into the opposing workface, as the bolt itself does not rotate during the tightening process. The nut will then, upon final tightening, draw the bladeedged points under the head of the bolt into the material surface, ensuring that the bolt will not rotate any further. This will also render the fixing secure against movement, vibration or torsion, ensuring a join that will remain secure under most conditions. This device could of course be an integral part of both nuts and washers, and would further enhance their fixing properties. Various combinations of additional nuts and washers would provide the ability to cover most fixing requirements, although this application only pertains to the single bolt as mentioned above. The drawing enclosed adequately demonstrates this principle.
Description:
BOLT CONNECTION WITH GRIPPING BLADE-EDGED POINTS

Description.

The device consists of a number of blade-edged points set in a radial position around and underneath the head of bolts nuts and washers. These blade-edged points can be of any size from the full surface of the bolt available to smaller points set in a row.

These blade-edged points engage with the surface of the material being joined during the final phase of the tightening operation. Upon contact with the surface of the material, the blade-edged points penetrate the material surface, thus preventing further rotation of the bolt. The nut will then, upon further tightening, draw the blade-edged points under the head of the bolt into the material surface, ensuring that the bolt will not rotate any further. Upon final tightening, the blade-edged points would penetrate sufficiently to render the fixing secure against movement, vibration or torsion effect, thus ensuring a join that would remain tight under all conditions.

This device could of course be affixed to nuts and washers, and would further enhance their fixing properties. Various combinations of additional nuts and washers would provide the ability to cover most fixing requirements.
