Abstract:
An apparatus for automatically measuring the thickness of a brake block of a car during running or automatically detecting the existence of damage. The apparatus comprises an imaging unit which includes a monitor camera for imaging a brake block of a running railway car and ouputting image signals, an image memory storing the image signals, and a trigger detector for outputting a trigger signal so that the image signal representing the image of a predetermined brake block of the railway car is stored in the image memory; and an image processing unit which includes extraction means for receiving the transfer of the image signals stored in the image memory and transferred thereto from the imaging unit, and extracting the predetermined brake block on the basis of the image signal, computation means for determining the thickness of the predetermined brake block thus extracted, and display means displaying the thickness of the predetermined brake block obtained from the computation means.
