Abstract:
The present invention provides a 4-way torque converter in which a front cover and a piston hub are integrally formed, thereby enabling effective control of lockup operation. The 4-way torque converter according to the present invention comprises a primary chamber for internal oil circulation, a secondary chamber, disposed between a front cover and a lockup piston, for supplying hydraulic pressure for a lockup clutch, and a tertiary chamber, disposed between the lockup piston and a balance plate, for compensating for working pressure of the lockup clutch and inner pressure of the torque converter, and comprises: the lockup piston an end of an outer diametral part of which is connected to a multi-plate friction plate of the lockup clutch and divides the secondary chamber and the tertiary chamber based on the inner and outer circumferential surfaces thereof; the balance plate which is in contact with the inside of an end of a circumferential end flange of the lockup piston and forms an interfacial end of the tertiary chamber disposed between the primary chamber and the secondary chamber; and the front cover which has one end thereof fixed to a pilot and is integrally provided with an inner diametral end bent flange which is coupled to a turbine spline hub of an input shaft for transferring the torque of an engine to a transmission and has an inner diametral end of the balance plate fixed at a distal end thereof, and an inner diametral end of the lockup piston slidably coupled at the distal end thereof.
