Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a comparatively large braking torque by a comparatively small construction by arranging an annular piston in a piston housing and disc members in a disc housing respectively, and providing such a means as one for arranging a seal between each disc member and a pressing member.
CONSTITUTION: A brake unit 10 includes a piston housing (cap) 10a in which an annular piston 22 is mounted for reciprocal movement. Besides, a disc chamber 40 in which a plurality of interleaved non-rotating and rotating discs 41a and 41b are disposed is formed, in a disc housing (brake housing) 10b. Moreover, pressing force for interposing each disc pad between is applied by an annular pressure plate 60. Each pressure plate 60 holds a sealing means 126 which is engageable sealingly with the adjacent disc, so as to inhibit coolant flow between the disc member and the pressure plates 60. And sealing means 126 are urged to engaging positions of the disc member with individual springs 70, 72.
