Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make calculation accurate for weight of vegetables and fruits by projecting shadow of vegetables and fruits and by calculating weight of the vegetables and fruits by extracting plan shape information of th vegetables and fruits from an image picked up by one image-pickup means and elevation information of the vegetables and fruits. CONSTITUTION:Vegetables and fruits a are illuminated by four light sources 4 and four shadows are projected to a surrounding of the vegetables and fruits a, namely the corresponding projecting bodies 3. A length of the shadow of the vegetables and fruits is proportional to their height and luminance distribution of the projecting bodies 3 is changed according to the height of the vegetables and fruits. A signal output from an image pick-up element 5 corresponds to luminance distribution. Thus, an image picked up by the element 5 is binary-coded, and area of the binary image is obtained, and a weight M of the vegetables and fruits a is calculated. With this configuration, not only plan shape of the vegetables and fruits but also the elevation are considered for enabling weight of the vegetables and fruits to be calculated and calculation accuracy to be improved.
