Abstract:
The simplified system has the coolant pump (1.0) separated from the engine (4.0) by a control valve (2.0). This controls the coolant flow either directly to the engine or diverts the coolant flow through the retarder before passing to the engine. The conductance of the two coolant circuits are similar. The retarder and pump can be integrated with each other and with the valve and with parts of the transmission. The valve can be a single system or two simple valves.
