PURPOSE: To attain a high-density characteristic of about 100kBPI by recording information on a vertically magnetized film, which is lined with a high-permeability layer and has ≤0.25μm thickness, with a head where the magnetic pole structure is asymmetrical and the thickness of the first magnetic pole tip film is ≤0.25μm and the second magnetic pole has ≥5μm thickness and is placed ≥1μm apart from the first magnetic pole.
CONSTITUTION: A nonmagnetic substrate 31 consists of an Al2O3-TiC, a nonmagnetic ferrite, or the like, and main magnetic poles 32 and 32' formed with thin film magnetic materials have ≤0.2μm tip film thickness Tp and consist essentially of an alloy such as an Fe-Si-Ru, an Fe-Ti, or the like or an amorphous magnetic alloy such as Co-Zr-B, Co-Nb-Zr, or the like. The head is constituted with a nonmagnetic gap layer 33 consisting of Al2O3, SiO2, or the like, an insulating layer 34 consisting of PIQ, Al2O3, SiO2, or the like, a coil 36 consisting of Al, Cu, or the like, a magnetic alloy thin film 35 consisting of the same materials as magnetic poles 32 and 32' and having ≥5μm film thickness, a vertically magnetized film 37 having ≤0.2μm film thickness and consisting of Co-Cr or the like, a high-permeability magnetic thin film 38 consisting of the same materials as magnetic poles 32 and 32', and a substrate 39 consisting of plastics, glass, Al, stainless steel, or the like besides said substrate 31 and magnetic poles 32 and 32'.
