PURPOSE: To provide a fault resistant disk storage sub-system containing a multipath hierarchy array which can dynamically change storage device controllers.
CONSTITUTION: The plural storage device controllers 14 and 40 are provided and the controllers are adaptive so that they can emulate the storage device and they contain cache memories 22 having plural data input ports 32 and plural data output ports 34. Processing elements in the storage device controllers are used for selectively and mutually connecting the specified data input port and the selected data output port. Then, mutual connection for connecting the data output controller 34 of one storage device controller and the data input ports 32 of the plural different storage device controllers is executed and the hierarchy array which can be changed in the storage device controller is generated. Thus, the storage device is connected to the lowest levels of the hierarchy arrays of the storage device controllers.
