To secure the accuracy of relative positions between bimetallic strips and a shifter by correcting deviation in distance due to the mounting posture and assembling errors of the bimetallic strips by a simple adjustment means in a product assembling process.
This thermal overload detecting device is made up by disposing a shifter 5 opposite to head parts 3a of bimetallic strips of respective phases, for linking, to a contact switching mechanism, a heat element part comprising the plurality of side-by-side arranged bimetallic strips 3u, 3v, 3w corresponding to the respective phases of a main circuit. An adjustment adaptor 9 is positioned at and mounted on the head part 3a of the bimetallic strip of each phase so that positional deviation of the head part of the bimetallic strip is corrected by using the shifter 5 as reference, and an end face of the adjustment adaptor mounted on the head part of the bimetallic strip is caused to abut, substantially without a gap, on an end of an arm part 5a projecting from the shifter when they are assembled into a product.
