A tapered roller bearing 1 for a transmission comprises, an inner ring 2, an outer ring 3, a plurality of tapered rollers 4, and a cage 5. A coefficient γ of roller exceeds 0.94. The cage 5 is constituted of an annular part 6 contiguous to a small end face side of the tapered roller 4, an annular part 7 contiguous to a large end face side of the tapered roller 4, and a plurality of columns 8 connecting the annular parts. Tapered faces 8a in contact with a rolling face of each tapered roller 4 are formed on both sides of an inner diameter face of the column part 8, and the length L in a lateral direction of the tapered faces is 5% or more and less than 11% of an average diameter of the tapered rollers 4.
