Abstract:

To simplify the construction of a start clutch, wherein a pump member to be connected to the engine side of a fluid joint and a turbine member to be connected to the transmission side engage with each other via a dry clutch.

The start clutch for the automatic transmission comprises a housing, a pump member, the turbine member, the fluid joint, and the dry clutch, the pump member and the turbine member engaging with each other via the dry clutch. A cover mounting portion on which a clutch cover is mounted and a friction face with which a clutch disc engages are formed on the outer wall face at the transmission side of the housing. The dry clutch is mounted between the outer wall face at the transmission side of the housing and an output shaft and a release mechanism is provided between the dry clutch and the transmission for releasing the dry clutch.
