This shift controller of the transmission has fluid pressure pump motors arranged in two power transmission passages, a first transmission mechanism and a second transmission mechanism for setting the gear ratio of the power transmission passages, and the switching mechanism for switching the respective transmission mechanisms, and has a shift request determining means (Step S2) determining the existence of a shift request for switching the switching mechanism, a torque reducing means (Step S3) reducing torque of the switching mechanism when there is the shift request, a first switching means (Step S5) releasing the switching mechanism after reducing the torque of the switching mechanism, a torque increasing means (Step S7) increasing the torque of the switching mechanism thereafter, and a second switching means (Step S9) engaging the switching mechanism in a state of changing a rotating speed of the switching mechanism by increasing the torque applied to the switching mechanism.
