Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain triphenylphosphine(TPP) economically and mechanically and continuously with good yield by using triphenylphosphine dichloride (TPPCl2) having an active chlorine content of less than a specific amount.
CONSTITUTION: A TPPCl2 solution whose content of phosgene, chlorine, diphosgene, hydrogen chloride, thionyl, chloride, sulfuryl chloride, phosphorus trichloride, phosphorus oxy-chloride and/or aliphatic halogen compounds totals less than 1,000 ppm Cl is reacted with Mg, Al and/or Fe in the presence of an inert solvent (preferably, toluene or chlorobenzene) to obtain the desired TPP. In reacting triphenylphosphine oxide(TPPO) with phosgene in an inert solvent, according to the drawing, a TPPO solution enriched in phosgene is prepared in an upstream washing column W and successively countercurrently is passed through a reaction vessel R arranged in series and finally, phosgene, etc., are removed by distillation in a distillation column D to obtain said TPPCl2 solution from the bottom of D.
