To obtain an image forming element with a discontinuous overcoat that is converted into a protective overcoat as a continuous coating film by fusing operation after processing by specifying the proportion of a region not covered with a polymer to form the discontinuous overcoat.
The image forming element includes a substrate, an image forming layer laminated on one side of the substrate and an overcoat on the image forming layer. The overcoat comprises an organic polymer, a part of the surface region of the image forming layer is not covered with the polymer and the overcoat is discontinuous in such a way that the proportion of the region not covered with the polymer ranges from 0.02 to 0.98. The longest distance dm between a certain point in the uncovered region and the edge part of the covered region closest to the point does not exceed 500 μm. The longest distance dc between a certain point in the covered region and the edge part of the uncovered region closest to the point is not larger than 100 μm.
