PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polycabodiimide compound having excellent sanitariness and storage stability by selecting a compound produced by using an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent having a specified or higher boiling point as the reaction medium, having a specified number of carbodiimide groups on the average per molecule and having a hydrocarbon group having a specified number of carbon atoms at one molecular terminal.
SOLUTION: There is provided a polycarbodiimide compound produced by using an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent having a boiling point of 120°C or above as the reaction medium, having 2-20 carbodiimide groups on the average per molecule, having a 15-40C hydrocarbon group at least one molecular terminal and having an average molecular weight of 950-10,000. This compound is obtained by reacting a di- or poly-isocyanate compound (e.g. 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate) with a 15-40C aliphatic alcohol (e.g. oleyl alcohol) in a molar ratio of 4/2 in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent (e.g. mineral turpentine) and effecting the carbodiimidization of the mixture at 100-150°C in the presence of a 3-methyl-1-phenyl-3-phospholene 1-oxide catalyst.
