To provide a polarizing plate for improving irregularity and distortion of the polarizing plate, in particular, due to drying and long time preservation while maintaining a degree of polarization and durability, and to provide a liquid crystal display superior in visibility and viewing angle characteristics using the polarizing plate.

The polarizing plate comprises a polarizing film that uses a polyvinyl alcohol film consisting of a vinyl alcohol based polymer containing 0.01-20 mol% of a cation group contained unit and 0.5-24 mol% of an α-olefin unit of a carbon number of 4 or less, and has 5-18 μm of thickness subjected to extension and dye treatment; and a retardation plate having a retardation value Ro of 30-110 nm, Rt of 70-300 nm, and film thickness of 20-60 μm. The thickness of the polarizing plate is 70-140 μm.
