PURPOSE: To obtain a dehydrating agent having powerful water absorbing power, and high shape retentivity and bio-degradative property by using an alkali metal salt of crosslinked carboxymethyl cellulose of high water absorbing power as a dehydrating agent.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali metal salt such as sodium or potassium or crosslinked carboxymethyl cellulose prepd. by crosslinking carboxymethyl cellulose with a crosslinking agent such as epichlorohydrin or the like having ≥100-fold water absorbing power is used as a dehydrating agent. Such dehydrating agent provides a sufficient dehydrating effect with a small amt. of use, is insoluble in water, has excellent shape retentivity after absorption of water, decomposes naturally by cellulase, and generates no secondary pollution.
