Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active group-bearing PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate) which is manufacturable by microorganisms with high productivity with a controlled ratio of the side chain units bearing the active groups and whose properties are arbitrarily controllable so as not to restrict its applications as a polymer, and its manufacturing method.
SOLUTION: The PHA contains a 3-hydroxy-ω-[(phenylmethyl)oxy]alkanoic acid unit represented by chemical formula (1) (wherein x can be at least one arbitrary integer within the range shown in the chemical formula).
